2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, Sherry E. Peterson, the admired longtime chief executive officer of the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Richmond Chapter, retires on July 1, 2015, after almost 17 years of service; and
WHEREAS, established in 1981, the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Richmond Chapter is one of over 70 chapters of the Alzheimer’s Association, the world leader in Alzheimer’s research and support; its mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research, to provide and enhance care and support for all affected, and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health; and
WHEREAS, Sherry Peterson helped the Greater Richmond Chapter thrive, and under her able leadership as chief executive officer for 17 years, the chapter grew from one full-time employee to 16 employees with headquarters in Richmond and regional offices in Fredericksburg, Gloucester, and Colonial Heights, serving more than 11,000 individuals annually; and
WHEREAS, Sherry Peterson has worked in the nonprofit world more than 40 years, including 17 years in child welfare and six years in education; and
WHEREAS, through her leadership and professionalism, Sherry Peterson leaves a legacy of excellence and compassion in the Alzheimer’s and dementia care arena; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Sherry E. Peterson hereby be commended for her 17 years of service on the occasion of her retirement as chief executive officer of the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Richmond Chapter; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sherry E. Peterson as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for her dedication and contributions to the Alzheimer’s and dementia cause throughout the Commonwealth.
