2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, the William Campbell Combined School golf team won the 2014 Virginia High School League Group 1A golf championship—the first state golf title in school history; and
WHEREAS, the William Campbell golf team from Naruna in Campbell County was undefeated after winning the state title on October 14, 2014; the Generals finished the season with a 19 - 0 record; and
WHEREAS, the William Campbell High School team’s closest competitor during the state competition was a talented group from Galax High School; the Generals won by 10 strokes during the two-day match, 668 points to 678 points; and
WHEREAS, at the championship, which was held at Glenrochie Country Club in Abingdon, junior Noah Jennings was the low scorer for the William Campbell Combined School team on the first day with 78 points; the next day, Josiah Singleton led with a 79; the entire team stayed focused throughout the event; and
WHEREAS, the Generals were determined to take the trophy back to Campbell County; the team took third place in the 2013 state competition, and throughout the 2014 golf season the golfers focused on returning to the state finals—and winning; and
WHEREAS, the victory was a team effort and head coach Brandon Barksdale gave credit to the players for setting a high standard and achieving it; the William Campbell Combined School golf team also received great support from the entire school community; and
WHEREAS, head coach Brandon Barksdale also received recognition for his and the William Campbell golf team’s accomplishments; he was named Conference 44 and 1A East Regional Coach of the Year for 2014; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the William Campbell Combined School golf team hereby be commended for winning the 2014 Virginia High School League Group 1A golf championship—the first state golf title in school history; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Brandon Barksdale, head coach of the William Campbell Combined School golf team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for the team’s outstanding achievement.
