HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 230
Celebrating the life of Damion L. West.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 13, 2015

 

WHEREAS, Damion L. West of Richmond was killed in the line of duty on July 9, 2009, while safeguarding members of the community as a security guard; and

WHEREAS, a native of Richmond, Damion West graduated from Virginia Randolph Community High School; and

WHEREAS, Damion West found employment as a security guard at the Ivy Walk Apartments complex, where he worked to ensure the safety of residents and their property; and

WHEREAS, Damion West’s death is a reminder of the service and sacrifices of all security personnel, who work diligently to uphold the law and protect their communities; and

WHEREAS, a certified bricklayer, Damion West also generously volunteered his time and talents to enhance the quality of life of his fellow Richmond residents by building homes in the Church Hill, Highland Park, and Northside neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, Damion West enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as an active member of the Temple of Judah in Church Hill; and

WHEREAS, Damion West cared deeply for his family; he was always willing to help a friend or neighbor in need, and he strove to spread joy to everyone he met; and

WHEREAS, Damion West is fondly remembered and greatly missed by his fiancée, Alicia; children, De’aire and Damion, Jr.; parents, Patricia and Lamont; brother, Anthony; grandmother, Constance; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Damion L. West, a beloved member of the Richmond community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Damion L. West as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
