HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 229
Commending John Mills.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 6, 2015

 

WHEREAS, John Mills, an innovative music teacher in Sterling, received the Outstanding Early Music Educator Award from James Madison University in January 2015 for his efforts to share the joys of music with his students and the community; and

WHEREAS, the Outstanding Early Music Educator Award is given to educators who have developed comprehensive and effective music curriculums, demonstrated service and leadership within the music profession, and supported the music program at James Madison University (JMU); and

WHEREAS, John Mills teaches Band 6, Band 7, and Band 8 at River Bend Middle School; he is responsible for the gold and purple beginning bands, intermediate band, advanced band, and jazz and chamber music ensembles at the school; and

WHEREAS, also serving as the camp director for the Potomac Falls Summer Band Academy and director of the Potomac Falls private lessons program, John Mills is a trusted mentor for music students in and out of the classroom; and

WHEREAS, John Mills collaborates with JMU faculty on music research projects, and he is a member of numerous peer organizations, including the Virginia Music Educators Association; and

WHEREAS, John Mills arranges and composes music for private clients and works with other teachers and college professors to build community and share teaching methods; he also performs various types of music in the Commonwealth and in Washington, D.C.; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That John Mills hereby be commended on receiving the 2015 Outstanding Early Music Educator Award from James Madison University; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Mills as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his commitment to his students and leadership in the music field.
