Commending Erin Adams.

WHEREAS, Erin Adams, a dedicated educator at Laurel Meadow Elementary School in Mechanicsville who strives to create new and better opportunities for all of her students, was named the 2015 Teacher of the Year by Hanover County Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, developing a passion for education at a young age, Erin Adams earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Virginia; she fulfilled her lifelong dream to become a teacher in 2004, joining the faculty of Pole Green Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, in 2008, Erin Adams transferred to Laurel Meadow Elementary School, where she taught second-grade language arts, math, science, and social studies until 2012, when she became a third-grade teacher of math, science, and social studies; and

WHEREAS, respected for her ability to connect with students and identify their individual learning capabilities, Erin Adams uses innovative techniques and technology to enhance the learning experience; she encourages students to demonstrate proficiency in different ways and develops hands-on activities to create an engaging, interactive classroom; and

WHEREAS, Erin Adams began working with students with disabilities through a high school project and has made it her personal mission to support students with autism spectrum disorders; she works diligently to balance the social, emotional, and educational needs of students with autism; and

WHEREAS, using a collaborative approach to best serve students with autism, Erin Adams facilitates open, honest communication among parents, her fellow teachers, and school administrators; recognizing that each child is unique, she is willing to try new approaches to discover what works best for each student; and

WHEREAS, actively supporting her students in and out of the classroom, Erin Adams often attends school sports and activities, and she is an enthusiastic volunteer in the community; and

WHEREAS, Erin Adams has earned numerous other awards and accolades for her good work, including the 2008 Mechanicsville Teacher of the Year award and the 2004 Meritorious New Teacher Candidate award; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Erin Adams hereby be commended on being named the 2015 Teacher of the Year by Hanover County Public Schools; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Erin Adams as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for her innovative teaching methods and commitment to her students.
