Celebrating the life of Wayne Dallas Fuller.

WHEREAS, Wayne Dallas Fuller of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, a former resident of the Newport News area who served the Commonwealth and the United States as a ship fitter for aircraft carriers, died on December 5, 2014; and

WHEREAS, a native of Randolph County, North Carolina, Wayne Fuller graduated from Denton High School and studied at Draughon’s Business College in Winston-Salem; he became a ship fitter at Newport News Shipbuilding, which today is a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Wayne Fuller was a ship fitter on Essex-class aircraft carriers; when World War II broke out, he enlisted in the United States Army, and as a battalion sergeant major, he managed harbor operations at the Port of Manila in the Philippines; and

WHEREAS, after being discharged in 1946, Wayne Fuller embarked on a career in the telecommunications industry; he was a career employee of Western Electric, which later became part of AT&T and then Lucent Technologies, and today is known as Alcatel-Lucent; and

WHEREAS, Wayne Fuller studied at Elon University and at the University of Virginia while working in administrative positions for the company; he became an expert in government and private-sector procurement and retired as manager of purchasing; and

WHEREAS, in retirement, Wayne Fuller dedicated his life to helping those who are less fortunate; his leadership abilities and positive outlook were evident in his work with Habitat for Humanity, the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, and his church; and

WHEREAS, a man of faith, Wayne Fuller was a member of First Presbyterian Church during the 17 years he lived in Burlington, North Carolina, and was a 52-year member of First Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem, where he was a deacon and financial administration volunteer; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Jonlyn, and two children, Amy and Ray, Wayne Fuller will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his son, David; his children’s families; and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Wayne Dallas Fuller of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, a former resident of the Newport News area who served the Commonwealth in the shipbuilding industry; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Wayne Dallas Fuller as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
