WHEREAS, in 2014, Kay Beazley, a dedicated, enthusiastic civil servant, retired as the postmaster of Studley in Hanover County; and

WHEREAS, after relocating to Studley from Warrenton in 1973, Kay Beazley found employment as a part-time assistant at the Studley post office, which was then located behind a counter in the Studley General Store; and

WHEREAS, the post office was later moved to a small building nearby, housing post office boxes for approximately 150 families; Kay Beazley continued to serve the community and became postmaster in 1980; and

WHEREAS, throughout her career, Kay Beazley responded admirably to the challenges of working in a small-town post office, such as when customers would call the post office with messages for the general store or when packages arrived with only nicknames and no street address; and

WHEREAS, the only full-time employee of the post office for many years, Kay Beazley served an average of 50 customers each day and became a touchstone of the community, making numerous dear friends during her time as postmaster; and

WHEREAS, Kay Beazley plans to spend her well-earned retirement traveling and visiting with her beloved family members; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Kay Beazley hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement as the postmaster of the Studley community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kay Beazley as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for her dedicated service to the residents of Studley and best wishes for a happy retirement.
