Celebrating the life of Steve Stavros Calos.

WHEREAS, Steve Stavros Calos, a dedicated state government worker and an admired member of the Richmond community, died on November 14, 2014; and

WHEREAS, a native of Danville, Steve Calos graduated from the honors program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and

WHEREAS, Steve Calos returned to the Commonwealth as a public information officer in Richmond; he later became the executive director of Common Cause Virginia, where he successfully advocated for various issues related to the public good; and

WHEREAS, Steve Calos also founded and chaired the Virginia Network for Campaign Finance Reform and served as executive director of the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts; and

WHEREAS, generously volunteering his time and talents to enhance the community, Steve Calos helped establish and led Boy Scout Troop 498, which has been named one of the top Catholic-sponsored troops in the nation, and served as the president of the Forest Hills Neighborhood Association; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith who was proud of his Greek heritage, Steve Calos enjoyed fellowship and worship as a member of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, serving on the parish council; and

WHEREAS, Steve Calos will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by numerous family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Steve Stavros Calos, a hard-working state government employee and an active member of the Richmond community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Steve Stavros Calos as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
