2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, John Sidney Davenport IV, a prominent business leader and an active member of the Richmond community, died on September 4, 2014; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Richmond, Sidney Davenport graduated from St. Christopher’s School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Hampden-Sydney College, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity; and
WHEREAS, Sidney Davenport began his accomplished professional career with First Mortgage Corporation; he later became the executive vice president and director of Ryland Mortgage and a director of Dynex Capital, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, an avid golfer and tennis player, Sidney Davenport was a member of The Shankers golf group, Kinloch Golf Club, and the Richmond German Club, and he donated his time and leadership as a board member of the Country Club of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Sidney Davenport enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a longtime member of Grace & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Richmond; and
WHEREAS, Sidney Davenport will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Elizabeth, Jean, Anne, and Mary, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of John Sidney Davenport IV, a respected business leader and active member of the Richmond community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of John Sidney Davenport IV as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
