2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, Adam Fortune, a beloved educator and football coach at Tuscarora High School in Loudoun County, died on July 7, 2014; and
WHEREAS, born in Naples, Italy, Adam Fortune graduated from Loudoun County High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Frostburg State University; and
WHEREAS, Adam Fortune promoted health and wellness among the youth of the community as a physical education teacher at Lucketts Elementary School and Catoctin Elementary School; he served as an assistant football coach at Broad Run High School from 1999 to 2009 and helped lead the team to two state championships; and
WHEREAS, Adam Fortune joined Tuscarora High School in its inaugural year in 2010 and had served as defensive coordinator of the football team since then; he constructed a stifling defensive package that held many talented teams to low scores; and
WHEREAS, known for his positive attitude and sense of humor, Adam Fortune was a trusted mentor who gave his players the tools and encouragement to achieve greatness on and off the field; he leaves behind a legacy of excellence for his fellow coaches and educators; and
WHEREAS, Fortune Field at Tuscarora High School was renamed in Adam Fortune’s honor; inspired by his memory, the Tuscarora High School football team went undefeated during the 2014 regular season and advanced to the Virginia High School League Group 5A state final; and
WHEREAS, Adam Fortune will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Jennifer, and numerous other family members, friends, colleagues, and students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Adam Fortune; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Adam Fortune as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
