2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, in 2015, Langley High School in McLean celebrates 50 years of preparing students for success in higher education and careers and responsible citizenship; and
WHEREAS, located in the northeast corner of Fairfax County, just across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., Langley High School was established in 1965 and honors the region’s rich heritage; and
WHEREAS, Langley High School takes its name from Langley Manor, home estate of Thomas Lee, the Governor of Virginia from 1749 to 1750, who was one of the first colonists to envision the new world as a separate nation with a capital situated on the Potomac River; and
WHEREAS, in keeping with a traditional theme, the Langley High School nickname is the Saxons, and the school’s colors are forest green and old gold with white trim; and
WHEREAS, Langley High School serves students in grades nine through 12 with an outstanding, comprehensive curriculum and numerous student organizations, activities, and athletic programs; and
WHEREAS, Langley High School offers one of the best advanced placement programs in the area, with more than 20 advanced placement classes in every discipline; it is one of only two Fairfax County Public Schools to offer a Russian language course; and
WHEREAS, Langley High School is consistently ranked as one of the top high schools in the Commonwealth and the United States; in 2013, it was ranked as the second best high school in the Commonwealth by U.S. News and World Report; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Langley High School on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bruce Butler, interim principal of Langley High School, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the school’s service to its students and Fairfax County.
