WHEREAS, McEva R. Bowser of Richmond, a longtime educator who also served on the Richmond School Board, an active member of many community organizations, a woman of faith, and a devoted wife and mother, died on February 10, 2015; and
WHEREAS, McEva Bowser was a native of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Elizabeth City State University; she also studied at Columbia University and Virginia Commonwealth University, where she received a master’s degree; and
WHEREAS, McEva Bowser worked for the Richmond Public Schools as a teacher for many years and also as a consultant and curriculum specialist; after her retirement, she continued to serve the City of Richmond and its students as a member of the Richmond School Board from 1994 to 1998; and
WHEREAS, many organizations benefited from McEva Bowser’s guidance and leadership; she was active in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Richmond chapter of The Links, Inc., and Jack and Jill, Inc., and she was a member of the auxiliary of the Richmond Medical Society; and
WHEREAS, McEva Bowser was a woman of faith who enjoyed fellowship and worship at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, where she was a member of St. Anne’s Guild; and
WHEREAS, McEva Bowser, who was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Barrington H. Bowser, Sr., will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her children, Angela and Barrington, Jr., and their families, and by many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of McEva R. Bowser of Richmond, a longtime educator who also served on the Richmond School Board, an active member of many community organizations, a woman of faith, and a devoted wife and mother; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of McEva R. Bowser as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
