WHEREAS, William W. Stanton VI, a dedicated educator for more than 30 years, a devoted friend, a veteran of the United States military, and a loving husband and father, died on August 28, 2014; and
WHEREAS, William “Bill” W. Stanton VI was born in Washington, D.C., and graduated from St. John’s College High School; he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond and later received a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University; and
WHEREAS, from 1970 to 1980, Bill Stanton was a member of the United States Army Reserves, serving as a Chaplain Assistant, Specialist 6th Class, in the 56th Hospital Medical Unit; and
WHEREAS, Bill Stanton began his teaching career in Louisa County; he also taught in the Counties of Henrico and Chesterfield and in the City of Richmond; he was a kindergarten through eighth grade teacher and he also taught high school English in summer school and adult education classes; and
WHEREAS, passionately devoted to making a difference in the lives of his students, Bill Stanton’s purpose in life was to inspire others to aspire and to seek out the talents and gifts of his pupils; he was frequently recognized as an outstanding teacher and was especially drawn to the Woodville Model Elementary School community; and
WHEREAS, Bill Stanton had many interests; he was a gifted songwriter, often composing songs to help motivate his students to do their best; he belonged to the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution, traveled widely, and was an advocate for affordable proton therapy medical treatment; and
WHEREAS, Bill Stanton was a devoted friend who loved people and loved life; he will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his wife, Diane; his children, William, Samantha, and Stephanie, and their families; and many other family members, friends, former students, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of William W. Stanton VI, a dedicated educator for more than 30 years, a devoted friend, a veteran of the United States military, and a loving husband and father; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William W. Stanton VI as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
