Commending Nichols Hardware.

WHEREAS, Nichols Hardware, a family-owned business in Purcellville, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2014; and

WHEREAS, opened by Edward E. Nichols, Sr., in 1914 as Nichols & Warner, Nichols Hardware originally stocked horse collars for local farmers and handmade dolls for children; the store retains much of its traditional charm, but with a much-expanded inventory; and

WHEREAS, Nichols Hardware stocks everything local residents might need; everything from snow shovels and sleds to fishing gear, tools, household supplies, gardening supplies, window screens, and cutlery can be found tucked down one of the store’s wood-floored aisles; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Nichols Hardware experienced several milestones and witnessed great change and growth in Purcellville; the store has been a local landmark, known for its longstanding generosity and support for the community; and

WHEREAS, Nichols Hardware was the subject of a documentary in 2011, titled Nichols: The Last Hardware Store, which details the store’s long history, unique charms, and service to generations of loyal customers; and

WHEREAS, Ken Nichols, the third-generation owner of the store, commemorated the 100th anniversary of Nichols Hardware with a special celebration in December 2014, with family, friends, fellow business owners, and customers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Nichols Hardware on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ken Nichols as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for Nichols Hardware’s legacy of service to the residents of Loudoun County.
