15105371DWHEREAS, Sharon Kay Gilbert Clevinger of Lebanon, a longtime teacher at three high schools in Southwest Virginia, who also was a cheerleading coach, a loyal friend, and a devoted wife and mother, died on January 2, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Clevinger was born in Richlands and graduated from Richlands High School; she received a bachelor’s degree from Emory & Henry College and a master’s degree from Radford University; and
WHEREAS, in 1975, Sharon Clevinger began her teaching career at Whitewood High School in Buchanan County; in 1979, she started working at Honaker High School in Russell County, where she taught English and was a cheerleading coach; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Clevinger later transferred to Lebanon High School, where she taught until she retired in 2010; during her 35 years in the classroom, she made a lasting impression on many of her students, who lovingly referred to her as “Mrs. C”; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Clevinger was a member of the Beta Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a society of outstanding teachers; and
WHEREAS, in addition to her husband, Roger, Sharon Clevinger will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her daughter, Katherine, and by many other family members, friends, and former students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Sharon Kay Gilbert Clevinger of Lebanon, a longtime teacher at three high schools in Southwest Virginia, who also was a cheerleading coach, a loyal friend, and a devoted wife and mother; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sharon Kay Gilbert Clevinger as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
