Celebrating the life of Clynard C. Belcher.

WHEREAS, Clynard C. Belcher, a respected businessman and community leader in Haysi, died on February 15, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Clynard Belcher learned the value of hard work and responsibility at a young age, growing up on the family farm in Haysi; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Haysi High School, Clynard Belcher joined many of the other young men of his generation in service to his country during World War II; he trained in communications and served under General George S. Patton in France and Germany; and

WHEREAS, after returning home from the war, Clynard Belcher established Belcher Insurance Agencies, which has served the coalfield region of Southwest Virginia for 64 years; and

WHEREAS, Clynard Belcher cared deeply for Dickenson County and worked to promote tourism in the community and helped establish the tourism committee; he also helped establish the local Chamber of Commerce and served as its first president; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Clynard Belcher enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community at Dickenson First Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an elder for more than 50 years; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his infant son, Clynard Terrance, Clynard Belcher will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 67 years, Anita; children, Rebecca, Judy, Hugh, and Kerry, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Clynard C. Belcher, a businessman and community leader in Haysi; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Clynard C. Belcher as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
