2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, Walter Blair Keller, Jr., a respected farmer, historian, and community leader in Washington County, died on February 18, 2015; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Washington County, Blair Keller was a charter member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 70 in Green Spring and the first in the troop to attain the rank of Eagle Scout; he remained an active volunteer in Scouting throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, Blair Keller served the region and the Commonwealth as a farmer; he was a board member of the Southwest Virginia 4-H Club and a statistician with the Virginia Agricultural Statistics Service; and
WHEREAS, Blair Keller was proud of his family’s deep roots in the region, and he helped preserve Washington County’s natural and historical resources as a charter member of the Mount Rogers chapter of the Appalachian Trail Club and a board member of the Overmountain Victory Trail Association; and
WHEREAS, serving on the steering committee of the Abingdon Muster Grounds, Blair Keller was instrumental in the creation of the Call to Arms Colonial Education Program at the site; the W. Blair Keller, Jr., Interpretive Center at the Abingdon Muster Grounds was named in his honor in 2010; and
WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Blair Keller enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community at Green Spring Presbyterian Church and Watauga Chapel, where he held several leadership roles; and
WHEREAS, Blair Keller will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 65 years, Gilda; children, Teresa and Walter III, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Walter Blair Keller, Jr., a farmer, historian, and community leader in Washington County; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Walter Blair Keller, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
