HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 919
Commending the Eastside High School one-act play team.

WHEREAS, the Eastside High School one-act play team of Coeburn claimed its first state title, winning the Virginia High School League Group 1A/2A state theatre championship in December 2014; and

WHEREAS, the Eastside High School one-act play team won the Conference 48 tournament and 1A West regional tournament to advance to the state competition; Kailey Kyle won the best acting award at the conference tournament, and Kailey Kyle and Kaitlyn Hall won the best acting award at the regional tournament; and

WHEREAS, the Eastside High School one-act play team performed Mother Hicks, a compelling story about an orphan girl during the Great Depression; the play incorporates complex themes about stereotypes and individuals’ need to feel accepted in society; and

WHEREAS, the talented members of the Eastside High School one-act play team contributed to the team championship with a variety of skills, including playing roles, creating the backdrop, performing music and sound effects, and coordinating lighting; Kailey Kyle and Kaitlyn Hall also won the best acting award at the state tournament; and

WHEREAS, the victory is a testament to the skill and hard work of the student actors and crew, the leadership of the coaches and faculty, and the enthusiastic support of the entire Eastside High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Eastside High School one-act play team on winning the 2014 Virginia High School League Group 1A/2A state theatre championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Shane Burke, coach of the Eastside High School one-act play team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s achievements and best wishes for the future.
