HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 911
Commending the Hanover Concert Band.

WHEREAS, the Hanover Concert Band, a nonprofit community band organization in Hanover County, has helped amateur musicians develop their talents and spread the joy of music to residents of Hanover County and Richmond for 25 years; and

WHEREAS, founded in 1989, the Hanover Concert Band is open to amateur musicians of all ages and backgrounds; the group meets weekly at the Hanover Arts and Activities Center and performs 12 - 15 concerts throughout Hanover County and the Richmond area each year; and

WHEREAS, the Hanover Concert Band has performed at the Hanover Tomato Festival, the Virginia War Memorial, Virginia Center Commons Mall, and the Veterans Memorial at Hanover Wayside Park; and

WHEREAS, the Hanover Concert Band is particularly active in the Ashland community, where it has performed at the Strawberry Faire, Fourth of July events, Train Day, and Hanover Arts and Activities Center fundraisers; and

WHEREAS, earning many awards and accolades for its performances, the Hanover Concert Band received the 2007 Hanover County Commitment to Community Award in recognition of its work to improve the quality of life of Hanover County residents; and

WHEREAS, the Hanover Concert Band has fulfilled its mission to provide the gift of live music to the community through many generous donations from boosters, patrons, sponsors, benefactors, and band members and their families; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Hanover Concert Band for its service to the community on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Karla Bloom, director of the Hanover Concert Band, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the band’s achievements and best wishes for the future.
