WHEREAS, Nancy Pool, the longtime president of the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce, retires on March 31, 2015, after 35 years of service to the residents and businesses of Halifax County; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Pool began her long and fulfilling career with the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce in 1980 as administrative assistant to the part-time executive director; and

WHEREAS, distinguishing herself by her hard work and leadership abilities, Nancy Pool became executive director in 1983 and guided the chamber through a period of growth and transition; and

WHEREAS, during Nancy Pool’s tenure, the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce experienced a significant growth in membership and helped create leadership and advocacy groups in Halifax County; she also offered her wisdom and expertise to the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce Senior Executive Roundtable; and

WHEREAS, under Nancy Pool’s leadership, the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce earned accreditation through the United States Chamber of Commerce, created the Virginia Cantaloupe Festival, established the Route 501 Coalition, and hosted networking events and opportunities for members; and

WHEREAS, in 2004, Nancy Pool participated in the Vision 20/20 process, when the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce organized business and community leaders to develop a vision for future growth; she was also instrumental in promoting tourism in the region; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Pool promoted business and responsible growth at the state and national levels, serving as a member of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce board and as a member and chair of the United States Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organizational Management Board of Regents; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Pool and her coworkers will celebrate her achievements and contributions to the region at the 60th annual meeting of the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce on March 10, 2015; and

WHEREAS, after her well-earned retirement, Nancy Pool will seek new opportunities to continue serving the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Nancy Pool on the occasion of her retirement as president of the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Nancy Pool as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her work to represent the best interests of the residents and businesses of Halifax County.
