Commending Edward M. Page, Sr.

WHEREAS, in 2014, Edward M. Page, Sr., a dedicated public servant and community leader, retired as Mayor of the Town of Ridgeway after more than two decades of diligent service; and

WHEREAS, Edward Page was elected Mayor of the Town of Ridgeway on May 1, 1990, and ably served the community for the next 24 years; and

WHEREAS, during Edward Page’s tenure as mayor, the Town of Ridgeway received a Community Development Block Grant to rehabilitate 20 housing units, demolish a dilapidated building, and install new waterlines, sewer lines, and a pump station; and

WHEREAS, under Edward Page’s leadership, the Town of Ridgeway adopted a zoning ordinance and created a zoning board and a zoning board of appeals in 2001 and completed a Comprehensive Plan in 2002; and

WHEREAS, Edward Page also oversaw additional infrastructure enhancements, the installation of three welcome signs, and the establishment and enhancement of Ridgeway Town Park, where two popular annual community events, the Christmas tree lighting and Ridgeway Springfest, are now held; and

WHEREAS, working to enhance the quality of life of his fellow residents, Edward Page was the former chair of the Henry County Republican Party, the administrative board chair of Ridgeway United Methodist Church, and a member of numerous civic and service organizations; he helped fund the Ridgeway District Volunteer Rescue Squad through the Ridgeway Jaycees; and

WHEREAS, Edward Page also supported the youth of the community as president of the parent teacher association of Ridgeway Elementary School and the first president of the parent teacher organization at Drewry Mason Middle School; and

WHEREAS, Edward Page is an exemplar of the professionalism, dedication, and care for the community displayed by local public servants throughout the Commonwealth; after his well-earned retirement, he continued to serve the community as the zoning administrator; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Edward M. Page, Sr., on the occasion of his retirement as Mayor of the Town of Ridgeway; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Edward M. Page, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his dedication, service, and contributions to the Town of Ridgeway and the Commonwealth.
