Celebrating the life of William Broderick Prendergast.

WHEREAS, William Broderick Prendergast, a distinguished former government employee, respected businessman, and leader in the McLean community, died on February 2, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a native of Hyannis, Massachusetts, William “Bill” Broderick Prendergast was reared in Annapolis, Maryland, and attended Georgetown University and Washington College in Maryland; he honorably served his country in Vietnam as a decorated military intelligence specialist; and

WHEREAS, Bill Prendergast continued his life of service as a staff advisor to a prominent member of the United States Congress; he also worked for the Federal Trade Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development; and

WHEREAS, after retiring from government service, Bill Prendergast became the vice president of what is now the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute and founded a longstanding and successful real estate business with his wife; and

WHEREAS, Bill Prendergast continued his dedication to community service throughout his life, including using his language skills and fluency in Vietnamese to assist Vietnamese families in their transition to new lives in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Bill Prendergast enjoyed fellowship and worship with the McLean community as an active member of St. Luke’s Catholic Parish; among his many contributions to the church, he served as a Eucharistic minister, volunteer CCD instructor, and Chair of the Capital Campaign; and

WHEREAS, a proud father and loving husband, Bill Prendergast will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 32 years, Marianne; their children, Will, Brian, Sam, Maggie, and Jack, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of William Broderick Prendergast, a dedicated government employee, businessman, and leader in the McLean community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William Broderick Prendergast as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
