HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 860 Offered February 18, 2015 Celebrating the life of Kathleen Therese Brown Rodenburg. ---------- Patrons-- Robinson; Senator: Watkins ----------

WHEREAS, Kathleen Therese Brown Rodenburg of Bon Air, a dedicated community volunteer who was a role model for her work with the less fortunate and the disabled, a generous and kind person, and a devoted wife and mother, died on January 28, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Kathleen Rodenburg, who was reared in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and graduated from Waukesha High School, moved to Tucson, Arizona, in 1957, where she met and married George B. Rodenburg; and

WHEREAS, the Rodenburg family moved to the Richmond area in 1971; family was important to Kathleen Rodenburg, and she taught by example the lessons of kindness, consideration, and the necessity to provide shelter for those in need of a place to call home; and

WHEREAS, after her children were grown, Kathleen Rodenburg devoted much time to helping in her community; she was a volunteer coordinator for the Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Vision Impaired for many years, and she also cofounded the center’s Volunteer Council; and

WHEREAS, in addition to volunteering at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Kathleen Rodenburg helped to establish and strengthen volunteer programs at Beaumont Juvenile Correctional Center, the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, the Capital Area Agency on Aging, which is now known as Senior Connections, and St. Joseph Catholic Church; and

WHEREAS, Kathleen Rodenburg also enthusiastically pursued other interests; she wrote a family memoir, “Cups Without Handles,” she was a fan of the Zac Brown Band, and she and her husband visited Ireland several times; and

WHEREAS, Kathleen Rodenburg will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by George, her husband of 56 years; her children, Anne, Monica, George, and Martha, and their families; and by many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Kathleen Therese Brown Rodenburg of Bon Air, a dedicated community volunteer who was a role model for her work with the less fortunate and the disabled, a generous and kind person, and a devoted wife and mother; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Kathleen Therese Brown Rodenburg as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
