HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 843 Offered February 16, 2015 Celebrating the life of Robert Barns Brittain. ---------- Patrons-- Morefield, Kilgore and Pillion; Senator: Chafin ----------

WHEREAS, Robert Barns Brittain, a public servant and community leader who worked to enhance the quality of life of his fellow Tazewell residents, died on January 18, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a native of Tazewell, Robert “Bobby” Barnes Brittain earned a bachelor’s degree from Hampden-Sydney College; and

WHEREAS, after completing his education, Bobby Brittain served the Tazewell community in a number of ways, including as a member of the Tazewell Town Council; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Brittain also volunteered his time and wise leadership as a board member for several banks, coal companies, and other local businesses and organizations; and

WHEREAS, an avid outdoorsman and hunter, Bobby Brittain traveled the world seeking trophy game; and

WHEREAS, proud of his deep family heritage in the Cove area of Tazewell County, Bobby Brittain appeared in the 1994 film Lassie, which was filmed in the Cove and highlighted the area’s quaint, rural charms; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Brittain will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by numerous family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Robert Barns Brittain, a public servant and active member of the Tazewell community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert Barns Brittain as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
