15104833DWHEREAS, on December 31, 2014, Charles Majors, a respected businessman and community leader in Danville, retired as president and chief executive officer of American National Bank after more than two decades of service; and
WHEREAS, a native of Georgia, Charles Majors settled in Danville and practiced corporate and commercial real estate law for 20 years, establishing a strong relationship with American National Bank as the bank’s counsel and a member of the board; and
WHEREAS, in 1993, Charles Majors became the president and chief executive officer of American National Bank; he applied his exceptional problem-solving skills to the position, actively reviewing processes and methods to ensure that the bank remained an efficient and effective financial institution; and
WHEREAS, Charles Majors helped American National Bank expand its territory by building or acquiring new branches in and around Danville; during his tenure, the bank’s assets have grown exponentially; and
WHEREAS, valuing and supporting the employees of American National Bank, Charles Majors instituted Employee Focus Day to provide additional training and team-building opportunities; under his leadership, the bank’s employees have been motivated to volunteer their time, talents, and leadership with community organizations; and
WHEREAS, highlighting American National Bank’s role as a vital partner in the Danville community, Charles Majors is himself an active volunteer; as a former chair of the Danville School Board, board member at Averett University, and vice chair of Smart Beginnings, Charles Majors is also a champion for education in the Danville area; and
WHEREAS, Charles Majors has encouraged responsible development and growth as a member of the Danville Development Council and chair of the Danville Regional Foundation, Danville Area Development Foundation, and Future of the Piedmont Foundation; and
WHEREAS, after his well-earned retirement, Charles Majors will continue to offer his wisdom and leadership as non-executive chair of American National Bank, and he will seek new opportunities to enhance the community through his involvement in civic and service organizations; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Charles Majors for his numerous contributions to the Danville community on the occasion of his retirement as president and chief executive officer of American National Bank; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charles Majors as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his leadership and service and best wishes for a happy retirement.
