2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, the Magna Vista High School football team capped off an outstanding 2014 season by winning the Virginia High School League Group 3A championship; and
WHEREAS, the Magna Vista Warriors of Ridgeway defeated a talented team from Lafayette High School 25 - 19 in a hard-fought contest played at Liberty University’s Williams Stadium on December 13, 2014; and
WHEREAS, the Warriors’ team motto is “one team, one goal,” and the players took it to heart throughout the entire season—especially in the title game; the defense never lost focus, and the offense, led by quarterback Shoalin McGuire, showed its strength, especially in the second half; and
WHEREAS, at halftime, the Magna Vista High School team trailed by one point as the teams went into their locker rooms with a score of 7 - 6; the Warriors’ defense had never wavered, and the offense picked up on their cue and confidently entered the second half; and
WHEREAS, T’Mahdae Penn scored in the first half for the Magna Vista team; Jac Hairston ran for a touchdown in the third quarter, one of two he made in the championship game, and Shoalin McGuire also scored a touchdown for the Warriors in the second half; and
WHEREAS, the Magna Vista Warriors head coach Joe Favero credited the defense’s tenacity and determination and the offense’s ability to execute almost any play in the team’s playbook as crucial factors that contributed to the region’s first high school football championship in 26 years; and
WHEREAS, the victory by the hardworking and relentlessly focused football team from Henry County is due to the discipline and hard work of the players and coaching staff and the strong support from the entire Magna Vista High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Magna Vista High School football team for winning the 2014 Virginia High School League Group 3A football championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Joe Favero, head coach of the Magna Vista High School football team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for the team’s outstanding championship season.
