HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 825
Celebrating the life of Robert Douglas Jones.

WHEREAS, Robert Douglas Jones of Henrico, an entrepreneur and mechanic, a man of faith and a mentor to many young men, a proud veteran of the United States military, and a devoted husband and father, died on December 17, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Robert Jones was born in King and Queen County and attended public schools there; he graduated from Denmark Trade School in South Carolina, now known as Denmark Technical College; and

WHEREAS, Robert Jones then enlisted in the United States Army and rose to the rank of specialist five; after his military service was completed, he became a mechanic in civilian life and also an entrepreneur; and

WHEREAS, among Robert Jones’ many interests and hobbies were a love of sports, especially baseball and fishing; he found great enjoyment in traveling, boating, and camping and was a member of the Virginia Camping Cardinals, a group of recreational vehicle enthusiasts; and

WHEREAS, Robert Jones was a man of great faith and was a mentor to many young men; he first joined New Mount Zion Baptist Church in Walkerton and later enjoyed fellowship and worship for many years as a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Richmond; and

WHEREAS, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Robert Jones chaired the Deacon Board and was president of the Men’s Choir and the Men’s Fellowship; he also was active in the Church School program, Vacation Bible School, the Pastoral Advisory Committee, and CARITAS homeless ministry; and

WHEREAS, Robert Jones will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by Florence, his wife of 44 years; his children, Janine, Ronald, Robert II, and Rosheen; and by many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Robert Douglas Jones of Henrico, an entrepreneur and mechanic, a man of faith and a mentor to many young men, a proud veteran of the United States military, and a devoted husband and father; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert Douglas Jones as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
