HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 821
Commending Ginter Park Terrace Historic District.

WHEREAS, Ginter Park Terrace Historic District, a residential neighborhood on Richmond’s Northside, has been a happy home to numerous, diverse individuals and families for more than 100 years; and

WHEREAS, planning and development of Ginter Park Terrace Historic District began in 1913; the triangular neighborhood is a fine example of Richmond’s early 20th century streetcar suburbs and comprises five one-way streets bounded by Chamberlayne Avenue, Brookland Park Boulevard, Edgewood Avenue, and Ladies Mile Road; and

WHEREAS, the quiet, cozy neighborhood takes its name from nearby Ginter Park; Ginter Park Terrace Historic District also maintains its own recreational area—Pollard Park—as a gateway between the neighborhood and Chamberlayne Avenue; and

WHEREAS, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Ginter Park Terrace Historic District offers a wide array of architectural styles common from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century, including Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, Mediterranean Revival, Dutch Colonial, and Bungalow/Craftsman; and

WHEREAS, many homes in the Ginter Park Terrace Historic District prominently feature a blending of American Foursquare design with Prairie or Craftsman influences; these homes are often wrapped by beautiful sun porches, verandas, and gardens, creating a dynamic and inviting visual experience; and

WHEREAS, Ginter Park Terrace Historic District is conveniently located near the Brookland Park Boulevard commercial district, allowing residents easy access to specialty shops and stores; and

WHEREAS, the residents of Ginter Park Terrace Historic District celebrated the neighborhood’s 100th anniversary with a party in September 2014; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Ginter Park Terrace Historic District on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ginter Park Terrace Neighborhood Association as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the neighborhood’s unique place in the history of the City of Richmond.
