15104094DWHEREAS, Fairfield Court Tenant Council has supported and provided a voice for individuals and families living in the Fairfield Court neighborhood for 57 years; and
WHEREAS, Fairfield Court in Richmond’s East End was established in 1958 and is one of the largest public housing developments in the city, with more than 400 units; Fairfield Court Tenant Council was founded to advocate for and enhance the quality of life of the neighborhood’s residents; and
WHEREAS, Fairfield Court Tenant Council holds regular elections to ensure that the organization faithfully represents residents; and
WHEREAS, Fairfield Court Tenant Council promotes maintenance of all units and common areas and has established public safety programs; the council also promotes programs to create educational, recreational, employment, and social service opportunities for residents; and
WHEREAS, Fairfield Court Tenant Council informs residents of their rights and responsibilities under existing federal, state, and local law and the corporation’s bylaws; and
WHEREAS, Fairfield Court Tenant Council works to comply with all Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development regulations and advise and assist these organizations with all aspects of public housing operations in the area; and
WHEREAS, Fairfield Court Tenant Council has instituted economic development programs in the area and works with other councils to serve the interests of all local residents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Fairfield Court Tenant Council for its 57 years of service to the residents of Fairfield Court; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Fairfield Court Tenant Council as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the council’s leadership and dedication to improving the lives of Richmond residents.
