Commending the Hanover High School baseball team.

WHEREAS, the Hanover High School baseball team from Mechanicsville claimed its second consecutive state title, winning the Virginia High School League Group 4A state championship on June 14, 2014, at Liberty University; and

WHEREAS, finishing the regular season strong, the Hanover High School Hawks claimed the Conference 20 title and the 4A South regional title; and

WHEREAS, the Hanover High School Hawks, made up of 10 seniors, three juniors, and five sophomores, defended their 2013 state title, defeating the Millbrook High School Pioneers 7 - 1 in the 2014 state final to finish the season with a 20 - 3 record; and

WHEREAS, the Hanover High School Hawks’ senior pitcher Derek Casey was named to the all-district, all-region, and all-state teams, as well as district, region, and state player of the year; senior third baseman Trevor Denton was named to the all-conference, all-region, all-metro, and all-state teams; and

WHEREAS, junior catcher Brady Didlake was named to the all-conference team; senior Jakob Pridemore was also named to the all-conference first team and won the 2014 Hawk Award, along with senior pitcher Matthew Corley; and

WHEREAS, the championship victory is a testament to the skill and perseverance of the athletes, the able leadership of the coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of the entire Hanover High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Hanover High School baseball team on winning the Virginia High School League 2014 Group 4A state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charlie Dragum, head coach of the Hanover High School baseball team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s hard work and determination and best wishes for the future.
