2015 SESSION
15103321DWHEREAS, Jon Reed Donnelly, a dedicated leader in the field of emergency medicine and an active member of the Chesterfield community, died on January 5, 2015; and
WHEREAS, a native of Washington, D.C., Jon Donnelly graduated from Wheeling Jesuit University and pursued a 25-year career in journalism; he served as a copy editor, reporter, assistant editor, photo editor, state editor, and associate city editor of the Richmond News Leader; and
WHEREAS, beginning in 1984, Jon Donnelly safeguarded and cared for members of the community as a member of Manchester Volunteer Rescue Squad in Chesterfield County; he achieved life member status in 1994; and
WHEREAS, from 1990 to 2007, Jon Donnelly served as executive director of the Old Dominion Emergency Medical Services Alliance, where he used his visionary leadership to support emergency medical technicians and advance the field of emergency medicine; and
WHEREAS, Jon Donnelly worked to enhance the quality of life of his fellow residents as a member and chair of the Chesterfield Emergency Planning Committee and the coordinator of the Chesterfield Health District Medical Reserve Corps; and
WHEREAS, after his well-earned retirement in 2007, Jon Donnelly continued to serve the community by volunteering his time and wise leadership with the Chesterfield Fire and EMS Division of Emergency Management Community Emergency Response Team; and
WHEREAS, Jon Donnelly also worked with the Virginia Olympic Games and was well-known in the aviation community; he was a founding member of the Virginia Aviation Museum, author of a weekly aviation column in the Richmond News Leader, and a member and leader of the Air Force Association at local, state, and national levels; and
WHEREAS, Jon Donnelly was an exemplar of the professionalism, compassion, and respect for members of the public displayed by first responders throughout the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Jon Donnelly will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Dianne; children, Juli and John, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Jon Reed Donnelly; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jon Reed Donnelly as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
