2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, Kanika Davis, an inspirational member of the Lynchburg community, was crowned Ms. Wheelchair Virginia at Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville on March 15, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Wheelchair Virginia celebrates the accomplishments of women who have overcome challenges and obstacles and inspires in others the courage and hope to achieve success in their communities; and
WHEREAS, as the winner of the Ms. Wheelchair Virginia Pageant, the largest Ms. Wheelchair program in the country, Kanika Davis has worked to further the organization’s mission to educate the public and raise awareness for the needs of people with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Kanika Davis has used a wheelchair since the age of 15; a goal-oriented leader in the community, she sought opportunities to serve others; and
WHEREAS, Kanika Davis has earned a bachelor’s degree from Radford University and a master’s degree from Liberty University; she puts her talents and wisdom to good use as a vocational counselor for the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services; and
WHEREAS, mentoring high school students with disabilities who are seeking careers, Kanika Davis helps strengthen the Lynchburg community and the Commonwealth and demonstrates her personal motto of Putting the Wheels in Motion; and
WHEREAS, during her reign, Kanika Davis traveled throughout the Commonwealth promoting her platform of Life Beyond Limits to help build confidence in individuals with disabilities and raise awareness of issues affecting them and their families; and
WHEREAS, Kanika Davis is an exceptional ambassador for the Commonwealth and has proudly upheld the legacy of previous Ms. Wheelchair Virginia titleholders; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Kanika Davis on her selection as Ms. Wheelchair Virginia 2014; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kanika Davis as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her achievements and best wishes on future endeavors.
