HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 793
Commending Maximus, Inc.

WHEREAS, Maximus, Inc., was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Cornerstones, Inc., with a prestigious 2015 Best of Reston Award in the Corporation/Large Business category; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston awards honor individuals, organizations, and companies that have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to helping others and improving the lives of people throughout the greater Reston area; and

WHEREAS, Maximus, which helps governments around the world improve their public health and human services programs, has its national offices in Reston and is a respected member of the area’s corporate community; and

WHEREAS, the staff of Maximus is dedicated to corporate citizenship, and in 2000 the company established the Maximus Foundation to help give back to communities; locally, Maximus supports a variety of organizations and events, including Herndon-Reston FISH (Friendly Instant Sympathetic Help), Inc., and Jill’s House; and

WHEREAS, Herndon-Reston FISH, Inc., is a volunteer organization that helps people meet emergency and short-term needs; a grant from the Maximus Foundation has provided financial help and holiday food and gift baskets to people in great need; and

WHEREAS, Jill’s House in Vienna is a program that provides respite for children with intellectual disabilities and their families; a grant from the Maximus Foundation funds the Weeknights at Jill’s House respite care program, serving local families and their children; and

WHEREAS, other Reston-area nonprofit organizations that have benefited from the generosity of the Maximus Foundation include FACETS Cares, Inc., The Women’s Center, and the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts; and

WHEREAS, additionally, the Kids on a Mission program of Touching Heart is another beneficiary of the Maximus Foundation; volunteers from the company worked with Tyler’s Kids Outreach, in partnership with the Washington Redskins Foundation, to help children with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, Maximus’ employees have generously donated to community food drives, participated in the Greater Washington Heart Walk to benefit the American Heart Association, and have contributed to an annual Giving Tree to benefit Cornerstones, Inc.; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Maximus, Inc., for its dedication to giving back to the community through generous grants to nonprofit organizations, for its employees’ extraordinary volunteer involvement, and for its well-deserved honor as a 2015 Best of Reston Award recipient in the Corporation/Large Business category; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Richard A. Montoni, chief executive officer of Maximus, Inc., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for its commitment to giving back to the community and the firm’s extraordinary generosity to organizations that help the less fortunate in greater Reston.
