Commending His Hidden Treasures.

WHEREAS, His Hidden Treasures nonprofit ministry was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Cornerstones, Inc., with a prestigious 2015 Best of Reston Award in the Civic/Community Organization category; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston awards honor individuals, organizations, and companies that have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to helping others and improving the lives of people throughout the greater Reston area; and

WHEREAS, in 2012, Lois and Troy Hughes founded the nonprofit ministry, His Hidden Treasures, to help people work their way out of homelessness and develop self-esteem in newly furnished homes; and

WHEREAS, His Hidden Treasures utilizes the talents and career backgrounds of Lois and Troy Hughes; when the couple met, Lois Hughes worked for a company that furnished executive apartments, and Troy Hughes owned a hauling business, Junk Be Gone; and

WHEREAS, their shared skills and a passion to help others led to the formation of His Hidden Treasures; today, the company works with seven area shelters as residents prepare to move into transitional housing, which is an important step toward self-sufficiency; and

WHEREAS, His Hidden Treasures is committed to making each dwelling a home for the people and families who have faced many difficulties and challenges and have been living in shelters or emergency housing; and

WHEREAS, originally working in partnership with Cornerstones, Inc.’s, Embry Rucker Community Shelter, His Hidden Treasures now helps six other agencies; more than 80 percent of the people helped by the company moved into housing in the Reston and Dulles area; and

WHEREAS, an extensive network of clients, donors, vendors, real estate agents, and community organizations support the work of His Hidden Treasures, including a mattress retailer, a furniture company, artists, furniture craftspeople, retail stores, and members of the public; and

WHEREAS, Lois and Troy Hughes transform and repurpose furniture into beautiful pieces that can grace any home; His Hidden Treasures provides almost all the furnishings to turn transitional housing into an inviting new home; and

WHEREAS, His Hidden Treasures also sells unneeded furniture and household items in a thriving online business; all of the money raised from the firm’s online sales supports the ministry’s many good works; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend His Hidden Treasures nonprofit housing ministry for its work on behalf of people moving into transitional housing and for its well-deserved honor as a 2015 Best of Reston Award recipient in the Civic/Community Organization category; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lois and Troy Hughes, founders of His Hidden Treasures, as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for their commitment and ministry to help the less fortunate in the Reston area.
