HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 788
Commending the Woodbridge Lions Club.

WHEREAS, the Woodbridge Lions Club celebrates 60 years of service to the Woodbridge community in Prince William County; and

WHEREAS, the Woodbridge Lions Club was organized by James C. Hill, a past international director of Lions Clubs International, and sponsored by the Quantico Host Lions Club; the club was chartered with 32 members in March 1955 and was the 12th Lions Club chartered in Northern Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the Woodbridge Lions Club has organized countless fundraisers over the years, including light bulb, candy, and shrimp sales and truck raffles, bingo, and golf tournaments, raising more than $1 million for community events and charitable causes; and

WHEREAS, enhancing the quality of life of local residents through a variety of programs, Woodbridge Lions Club supports youth sports leagues, the James M. Bland Music Contest, Cast for Kids, and Turn in a Pusher; and

WHEREAS, the Woodbridge Lions Club has also supported and donated money to what is now Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center and, like many Lions Clubs, has donated eyeglasses and hearing aids to members of the community in need; and

WHEREAS, from October 2012 through July 2014, the Woodbridge Lions Club operated three vision screening devices and two audiometers at day care centers, elementary schools, and health fairs and screened more than 10,000 adults and children; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Woodbridge Lions Club have strengthened the region by inspiring others to take up the organization’s mission; the club has sponsored the Woodbridge Lioness Auxiliary, the Dale City Lions Club, the Lake Ridge Lions Club, the Woodbridge Sunset Lions Club, and the Woodbridge Leo Club; and

WHEREAS, the 36 members of the Woodbridge Lions Club will commemorate the club’s 60th anniversary with a special celebration on April 18, 2015, at the Fort Belvoir Officers’ Club; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Woodbridge Lions Club on the occasion of its 60th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Woodbridge Lions Club as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the club’s many years of devoted service to Prince William County and the Commonwealth.
