HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 781
Commending the Virginia Public Safety Foundation.

WHEREAS, the Virginia Public Safety Foundation was formed in 1993, after the merger of the Silver Star Foundation and the Virginia Police Foundation, to provide assistance to public safety officers injured in the line of duty and assistance to the families of officers killed in the line of duty, as well as scholarships for their children; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Public Safety Foundation recently completed a 10-year effort to design, build, and dedicate the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial on Capitol Square on December 6, 2014; the memorial is inscribed with 870 names of those who gave their lives in service to the people of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the efforts of president Paula Miller, vice president John Venuti, and the board of directors of the Virginia Public Safety Foundation were instrumental in completing this project; and

WHEREAS, the efforts of past presidents and board members of the Virginia Public Safety Foundation were instrumental in completing the memorial; and

WHEREAS, the executive director of the Virginia Public Safety Foundation, Matthew A. Gray, also contributed to the successful completion of the memorial; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Virginia Public Safety Foundation on the occasion of the completion and dedication of the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Virginia Public Safety Foundation as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for its efforts to support those who serve and protect the residents of and visitors to the Commonwealth.
