Celebrating the life of Ralph Schaefer Oglesby.

WHEREAS, Ralph Schaefer Oglesby of Lynchburg, president and broker of Oglesby Management Group, Inc., a dedicated public servant who was appointed to two state boards and made many valuable contributions to his community and the Commonwealth, died on January 14, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Schaefer Oglesby was born in Lynchburg and graduated from E. C. Glass High School; he attended Lynchburg College for two years before transferring to Florida State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree; and

WHEREAS, for most of his professional career, Schaefer Oglesby was active in real estate sales and property management; he invested in residential properties and also lent his talent and expertise to improving his community by serving on many boards; and

WHEREAS, locally, Schaefer Oglesby was a member of the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce and had served on its board of directors and been chair; he also had been a member of the Lynchburg Building Code Appeals Board; and

WHEREAS, Schaefer Oglesby’s service to the Commonwealth included receiving a gubernatorial appointment to the Virginia Real Estate Board; he was a member of the statewide board for eight years and also served as chair of the group; and

WHEREAS, additionally, Schaefer Oglesby was a member of the Virginia State Building Code Technical Review Board for 30 years; he helped devise regulations and policies affecting the Commonwealth’s building code and the licensing of real estate professionals; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to furthering professionalism in the real estate community, Schaefer Oglesby was instrumental in developing a national licensing examination for real estate professionals, and he also served as a national real estate examiner and consultant; and

WHEREAS, Schaefer Oglesby was inducted into the Omega Tau Rho fraternity of real estate professionals in 2013 for his dedication and service; he was known for his great love for life and was a friend to all he met; and

WHEREAS, Schaefer Oglesby, who belonged to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his wife, Sharon; his children, John, Tracy, Tiffany, Roderick, and Jennipher, and their families; and by many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Ralph Schaefer Oglesby of Lynchburg, president and broker of Oglesby Management Group, Inc., a dedicated public servant who served on two state boards and who made many valuable contributions to his community and the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ralph Schaefer Oglesby as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
