Commending Sterling N. Ransone, Jr., M.D.

WHEREAS, Sterling N. Ransone, Jr., M.D., a dedicated family physician from Cobbs Creek, faithfully served the medical profession and the Commonwealth as the 2013–2014 president of the Medical Society of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Sterling Ransone earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The College of William and Mary and a medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia (now known as the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine); he completed his internship at Riverside Regional Medical Center and residency at Riverside Family Practice Center; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ransone served as chief resident of family practice at the Riverside Regional Medical Center, as assistant clinical professor of family medicine at the Medical College of Virginia, and as a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians; he is board certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians and the National Board of Medical Examiners; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ransone joined the Riverside Fishing Bay Family Practice in 1995 and has been a vital member of the community ever since; he also served as assistant clinical professor of Family Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ransone is a regular volunteer in his community, including as a founding board member and medical director for Hospice Support Services of Middlesex County and medical director of Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad; and

WHEREAS, a respected leader in his field, Dr. Ransone has made many contributions to his profession as president of the Mid-Tidewater Medical Society, president of the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians, and chair of the Medical Society of Virginia Political Action Committee; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ransone has taken an active role with the Medical Society of Virginia, serving as vice president and a member of the board of directors, as well as chair of several of its committees prior to his tenure as president; during his term as president of the Medical Society of Virginia, he drew upon his wealth of experience as a physician to provide strong leadership to promote quality health care throughout the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Sterling N. Ransone, Jr., M.D., on his successful term as the 2013–2014 president of the Medical Society of Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sterling N. Ransone, Jr., M.D., as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his commitment to the medical profession and the well-being of all Virginians.
