Commending Dennis Welch.

WHEREAS, Dennis Welch, a veteran law-enforcement officer and a member of the Amtrak Police Department, works with his K-9 partner Aziz to diligently serve and protect residents of and visitors to the Commonwealth on a daily basis; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of service to his country, Dennis Welch joined the United States Army and has been a military or police working dog handler for more than 17 years; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Welch started his career in law enforcement with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, where he worked with explosives detection dogs at Ronald Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport; and

WHEREAS, currently employed by the Amtrak Police Department, Dennis Welch is partnered with Aziz, a five-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer specializing in explosives detection; Aziz is a critical asset in the mission to protect the nation’s infrastructure and keep Amtrak passengers safe; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Welch and Aziz safeguard Amtrak’s employees and passengers by sweeping unattended bags, patrolling Amtrak buildings and terminals, and providing boarding sweeps of trains; they have also provided additional protection for VIP motorcades and trains; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Welch and Aziz were assigned to the United States Marshals Service as K-9 support for the Concert for Valor, which honored the nation’s veterans on the National Mall on November 11, 2014; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Dennis Welch for his service to the Commonwealth as a law-enforcement officer, along with his K-9 partner, Aziz; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dennis Welch as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his courage, professionalism, and dedication.
