15104041DWHEREAS, for 50 years, Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech has provided opportunities for innovative research, offered a world-class business curriculum to its students, and served and supported the local community; and
WHEREAS, the first bachelor’s degree in business was offered at Virginia Tech in 1925 and what would become Pamplin College of Business was founded in 1965 under Dean Mitchell; the college established a master of business administration program in the Washington, D.C., area in 1973; and
WHEREAS, after a generous gift from Robert B. Pamplin and Robert B. Pamplin, Jr., both alumni and respected leaders in their fields, the college was officially renamed Pamplin College of Business in 1986; and
WHEREAS, fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, Pamplin College of Business offers degree programs in accounting and information systems, business information technology, economics, finance, hospitality and tourism management, management, and marketing; and
WHEREAS, the undergraduate program at Pamplin College of Business has been ranked as one of the 50 best programs in the country by U.S. News and World Report, and the graduate information technology program was ranked second in the country; and
WHEREAS, in 2015, Pamplin College of Business has an enrollment of 4,300 students, accounting for approximately 20 percent of all business degrees awarded by the Commonwealth’s public institutions; and
WHEREAS, faculty members of Pamplin College of Business are respected leaders in the fields of industry, finance, management practice, and information technology; many have made contributions to a better understanding of business issues and played a crucial role in public policy making; and
WHEREAS, with the opening of the Apex Systems Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Center for Business Intelligence and Analytics, Pamplin College of Business strives to be known for its expertise and accomplishments in business knowledge and efforts to empower the entrepreneurs of the future; and
WHEREAS, with support of countless alumni, faculty, and staff, Pamplin College of Business is a leader in business education, developing the knowledge and skills to enhance students’ success in a complex, digital economy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the college’s commitment to its students and contributions to the Commonwealth.
