HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 728
Commending the Nelson County Middle School Future Farmers of America Agronomy team.

WHEREAS, the Nelson County Middle School Future Farmers of America Agronomy team placed second in the Agronomy career development event at the 87th National Future Farmers of America Convention and Expo in 2014; and

WHEREAS, the Nelson County Middle School Future Farmers of America (FFA) Agronomy team placed second out of 37 teams; in the individual national standings, Ruth Fitzgerald placed 11th, Patrick Saunders placed 14th, Jacob Saunders placed 21st, and Colin Morris placed 31st; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Fitzgerald earned a $400 scholarship for her individual performance, and each team member received a gold medal for the team’s performance; and

WHEREAS, coached by Scott Massie and Jamie Conner, the Nelson County Middle School FFA Agronomy team applied classroom knowledge of agronomic science to real-world situations and developed solutions for various scenarios, such as seed identification, grain grading, soil analysis, and other management issues; and

WHEREAS, to advance to the national event, held in Louisville, Kentucky, the Nelson County Middle School FFA Agronomy team won the junior and senior divisions at the state competition; Patrick Saunders placed first in the individual state competition; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Nelson County Middle School FFA have gained valuable experience and skills that will help them better serve the Commonwealth as farmers, leaders in their community, and citizens; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Nelson County Middle School Future Farmers of America Agronomy team on placing second in the Agronomy career development event at the 2014 National Future Farmers of America Convention and Expo; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to Scott Massie and Jamie Conner, coaches of the Nelson County Middle School Future Farmers of America Agronomy team as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s achievements and best wishes for the future.
