Commending the Carroll County Middle School eighth-grade class.

WHEREAS, students in the Carroll County Middle School eighth-grade class successfully completed the National Novel Writing Month challenge in November 2014 and will have their works published; and

WHEREAS, during National Novel Writing Month, students throughout the world are encouraged to write a novel, and students who complete the challenge have up to five of their books published through CreateSpace; and

WHEREAS, Angel Maggio, an English teacher for the Carroll County Middle School eighth-grade class, initiated the program to help her students gain confidence in their writing abilities and practice for essay-writing portions of standardized tests; and

WHEREAS, in the Carroll County Middle School eighth-grade class, 44 students completed the challenge by finishing a book and meeting the 2,000-word minimum; students completed works in various genres and of various lengths, with one student writing a 27,000-word story; and

WHEREAS, the 44 students who completed the challenge will each have one of their published books placed in the Carroll County Middle School library as a reminder of their achievements and an inspiration to other aspiring young writers at the school; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Carroll County Middle School eighth-grade class on completing the National Novel Writing Month challenge; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Angel Maggio, an English teacher for the Carroll County Middle School eighth-grade class, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the students’ hard work and dedication.
