2015 SESSION
15103165DWHEREAS, Dee Everhart, president and co-owner of Everhart Primary Health Care in Cana, was named a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year by the National Association of Professional Women, in honor of her outstanding leadership in the health care field; and
WHEREAS, Dee Everhart and her daughter, Carole, opened Everhart Primary Health Care in 2012; both women are nurse practitioners, and they established the clinic in Carroll County to provide quality care at a price patients could afford; and
WHEREAS, the National Association of Professional Women is the largest, most-recognized networking organization of professional women in the country, with more than 600,000 members and nearly 300 chapters; the organization’s mission is to provide a networking forum for women to help them aspire, connect, and achieve; and
WHEREAS, Dee Everhart, who has a doctoral degree from Old Dominion University, has been a nurse for more than 55 years; she is a graduate of Baptist Hospital Nursing School and Surry Community College, and she received further nursing education from the University of North Carolina, St. Joseph’s College, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and
WHEREAS, Dee Everhart has wanted to be a nurse since she was young; for most of her professional career, she worked with her husband, Carleton, a rural medical doctor, and she also worked in hospitals before opening Everhart Primary Health Care; and
WHEREAS, many residents of Carroll County and the surrounding area live long distances from medical offices and hospitals; Dee Everhart and her daughter opened the clinic to fulfill a wish to practice advanced nursing while providing quality, affordable, and convenient health care; and
WHEREAS, Everhart Primary Health Care is the only primary health care facility within a 25-mile radius; Dee Everhart and her daughter treat acute minor illnesses and stable chronic conditions, and they also provide physical examinations, disease prevention education, and wellness services; and
WHEREAS, Dee Everhart and her daughter open the clinic on weekday evenings, all day on Saturday, and on Sunday afternoons; patients pay $50 for an examination, and for those who cannot afford that amount, the practice occasionally accepts payment in kind; and
WHEREAS, Dee Everhart also passes on her professional knowledge and love of the medical profession to nursing and medical students who work at Everhart Primary Health Care during their medical training; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Dee Everhart for being named a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year by the National Association of Professional Women; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dee Everhart as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for her leadership and commitment to nursing and for founding Everhart Primary Health Care in Cana to provide quality, reasonably priced health care to the people of Carroll County and the surrounding area.
