Celebrating the life of Edward Leong.

WHEREAS, Edward Leong, a lifetime civil servant from McLean, died on December 7, 2014; and

WHEREAS, a native of Queens, New York, Edward “Ed” Leong graduated summa cum laude from Yale University and received a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, Ed Leong was a dedicated public servant who worked in the Office of Legislative Counsel of the United States House of Representatives for over 35 years, drafting legislation, on an impartial basis, for the members and committees of the House in order to achieve a clear, faithful, and coherent expression of legislative policies; and

WHEREAS, Ed Leong mastered the demanding discipline of legislative drafting, developing expertise in numerous areas of the law, particularly as the primary drafter of all legislation relating to federal employees; his work improved the lives of thousands of federal employees in the Commonwealth and throughout the United States and the world; and

WHEREAS, Ed Leong was always gentlemanly, kind, and good-humored with both his clients and colleagues; he was unfailingly meticulous, thorough, and patient in fulfilling his duties; and

WHEREAS, Ed Leong enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a longtime member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in McLean; and

WHEREAS, Ed Leong will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Chee Lee; children, Stephen and Anna; parents, Douglas and Kam; brothers, Norm and Ernie; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Edward Leong, a respected civil servant and member of the McLean community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Edward Leong as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
