Celebrating the life of Earl T. Smith.

WHEREAS, Earl T. Smith, a dedicated servant to the Ashland community and a beloved husband and father, died on December 16, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Earl Smith safeguarded the lives and property of community members as a lifetime member of the Ashland Volunteer Fire Company, having served for more than 59 years; and

WHEREAS, Earl Smith worked to protect and preserve the environment and natural resources of the Ashland area as a chief forest warden for 33 years; he earned the nickname Smokey the Bear for his commitment to protecting the Commonwealth’s forests; and

WHEREAS, Earl Smith also worked to enhance the quality of life of his fellow Ashland residents as a longtime member of the Independence Ruritan Club; and

WHEREAS, Earl Smith will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of more than 61 years, Karl; children, Michael, Mark, and Renee, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Earl T. Smith, an active contributor to the well-being of the Ashland community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Earl T. Smith as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
