HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 671 Commending the Glenvar High School football team.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 23, 2015 Agreed to by the Senate, January 29, 2015

 

WHEREAS, the Glenvar High School football team won its first Virginia High School League championship, claiming the Group 2A title on December 13, 2014; and

WHEREAS, the 2014 Glenvar Highlanders from Roanoke County defeated a talented squad from Wilson Memorial High School in overtime at nearby Salem Stadium; the final score was 20 - 14; and

WHEREAS, the Glenvar High School football team came out strong during the first quarter; quarterback Zack Clifford threw a touchdown pass to Elliot Stigall, and a 5-yard carry by Tyler Smith yielded the team’s second touchdown; and

WHEREAS, the score was tied 14 - 14 at halftime and the second half was scoreless; the Glenvar Highlanders scored on the game’s second possession in overtime with a 13-yard run into the end zone by Zack Clifford; and

WHEREAS, the victory capped an impressive season for the hard-working members of the Glenvar High School team; they ended the 2014 season with an outstanding 14 - 1 record; and

WHEREAS, the Highlanders’ head coach is Kevin Clifford; he, his staff, and the hard-working players received support throughout the season from the entire Glenvar High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Glenvar High School football team for winning the 2014 Virginia High School League Group 2A championship, the school’s first state football title; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kevin Clifford, head coach of the Glenvar High School football team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s outstanding performance and championship season.
