WHEREAS, Rosemary Tran Lauer of Vienna, a dedicated community leader and entrepreneur, received a 2014 National Association of Realtors® Good Neighbor Award for her work to support children and families in Northern Virginia; and

WHEREAS, a native of Vietnam, Tran Lauer and her two children came to the United States as refugees in April 1975; originally sponsored to live in Washington, D.C., by a nonprofit organization, she worked hard to support her family and became a respected real estate professional in the area; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of service to other immigrant families and children, Tran Lauer drew on her own experiences and founded Devotion to Children in 1994; the organization works with businesses, civic and service groups, and individuals to build a stronger society by ensuring that the mental, physical, and emotional needs of local children are met; and

WHEREAS, since its inception, Tran Lauer’s organization has helped over 3,000 children by offering computer labs, library programs, child-care scholarships, emergency child-care funding, and preschool testing services; and

WHEREAS, Tran Lauer was honored at the National Association of Realtors® Good Neighbor Awards program in New Orleans on November 8, 2014, where she received $10,000 for Devotion to Children; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Rosemary Tran Lauer on receiving a 2014 National Association of Realtors® Good Neighbor Award for her success in helping families and children in Northern Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rosemary Tran Lauer as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her contributions to the community.
