WHEREAS, Benjamin Howlett, a dedicated law-enforcement officer with the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, was named the York County Officer of the Year in 2014 for his tireless work to protect and serve members of the community; and

WHEREAS, a native of Gloucester County, Benjamin Howlett graduated from Christopher Newport University and enrolled in the Hampton Roads Police Academy; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin Howlett began his law-enforcement career with the Mathews County Sheriff’s Department, but quickly transferred to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, having gained a love for the area while serving as an intern; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin Howlett has earned a reputation as a humble, hardworking professional who always goes above and beyond in his duties to safeguard the lives and property of local residents; known for his calm, reassuring demeanor, he has consistently demonstrated respect and care for members of the public; and

WHEREAS, a respected mentor to many younger officers throughout his 10-year career in law enforcement, Benjamin Howlett was promoted to master deputy in December 2014; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin Howlett received the Officer of the Year Award from the Hampton Roads Fraternal Order of Police at a special ceremony in November 2014; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Benjamin Howlett on being named the 2014 York County Officer of the Year; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Benjamin Howlett as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his exceptional service to the residents of York County and the City of Poquoson.
