WHEREAS, Tara Worley, a longtime coach of the Lakeland High School field hockey team in Suffolk, was named the 2014 National Coach of the Year in field hockey by the National High School Coaches Association; and

WHEREAS, Tara Worley amassed a 250-46-3 record as coach of the Lady Cavaliers of Lakeland High School; during her tenure, the school won a state field hockey championship, two regional titles, and numerous district titles; and

WHEREAS, under Tara Worley’s guidance, the Lakeland High School field hockey team developed into one of the best teams in the Commonwealth; many of her players have gone on to play field hockey in college; and

WHEREAS, Tara Worley was first hired as Lakeland High School’s junior varsity field hockey coach in 1998 and was promoted to head coach the following year; she quickly turned the Lady Cavs into a field hockey powerhouse; and

WHEREAS, in her first year as varsity coach of the Lakeland Lady Cavs, Tara Worley’s team finished third in district competition; the following year, it took first place and has been a strong field hockey presence since; and

WHEREAS, Tara Worley received the honor from the National High School Coaches Association after retiring in 2013 from coaching field hockey at Lakeland High School; she was coach for 15 years and guided many talented players; and

WHEREAS, Tara Worley, who first played field hockey in high school, is a graduate of Christopher Newport University, where she revived a dormant club field hockey team; in 1999, she started Girls Field Hockey, a league for players ages 5 through 17; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Tara Worley, former head coach of the Lakeland High School field hockey team in Suffolk, for being named the 2014 National Coach of the Year in field hockey by the National High School Coaches Association; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tara Worley as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and congratulations for this stellar achievement.
