2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, Brendan Bernard McKay, a former resident of Northern Virginia and a passionate volunteer and world traveler who offered kindness and generosity to everyone he met, died on September 8, 2014; and
WHEREAS, a native of New Jersey, Brendan McKay grew up in Alexandria and graduated from McLean High School; he attended Virginia Commonwealth University, Western Connecticut State University, and John Cabot University and earned a bachelor’s degree from Rhode Island College; and
WHEREAS, an enthusiastic lifelong learner, Brendan McKay studied philosophy, history, physics, and religion; he earned a master’s degree from St. John’s University in Rome and planned to conduct doctoral studies at King’s College in London; and
WHEREAS, from 2008 to 2010, Brendan McKay served as an AmeriCorps volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters in Wyoming; he was later promoted to vice president of development and raised thousands of dollars to support at-risk youth, before accepting a position as an AmeriCorps program manager in Rhode Island; and
WHEREAS, possessed of an adventurous spirit and a zest for life, Brendan McKay traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Africa, and Asia, gaining respect and understanding for many cultures and acting as a compassionate ambassador for both the Commonwealth and the United States; and
WHEREAS, Brendan McKay will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his parents, Bernard and Mary, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Brendan Bernard McKay, an admired former member of the Northern Virginia community who touched countless lives throughout the world; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Brendan Bernard McKay as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
